Upper Austrian State Library
Linz, AT
The task set was to plan an extension to the Upper Austrian State Library and to transform a storage library into an open access library in terms of a more efficient visitor or reader orientation.
The aim was to leave the existing staggered structures of the library wings untouched in their clarity, and to integrate the new, independent buildings self-confidently and harmoniously into the inventory. The theme of the staggered structures is repeated in the suspended bodies of glass; at the same time, this creates a bridge between the two new buildings and embraces the entire ensemble of old and new.
