New School cafeteria and kindergarten
Erding, GER
The school canteen and the kindergarten are completed in the form of three new structures, enhancing the existing educational campus at Ludwig-Simmet-Anger. These buildings respond to the geometry and positioning of the existing primary school and the open space at Ludwig-Simmet-Anger. The pathways continue in a logical manner, establishing a clear connection between the entrance of the primary school and the entrance of the school canteen. The new structures enclose the southern side of Ludwig-Simmet-Anger, defining distinct plaza edges.
The shared entrance of the school canteen and the kindergarten is situated between two buildings in the northern part of the property, directly opposite the entrance of the primary school. This allows the schoolchildren visiting the canteen during their lunch break to cross the open space (Anger) quickly. The foyer serves as a multifunctional distribution zone for both the school and kindergarten children.
INTERNAL ORGANIZATION
Directly connected to the entrance hall are the canteen with two separate entrances, the restrooms, and the kindergarten. The spaciousness of the foyer not only provides easy and clear access to the various areas but also offers waiting zones and a meeting room as a room-within-a-room system. A direct access from the entrance area leads to the courtyard of the kindergarten.
The kindergarten accommodates four kindergarten groups on the ground floor, with each two groups forming a cluster. The nursery groups are located on the upper floor and can be reached via the staircase near the entrance area or by elevator.
THE SCHOOL CANTEEN
The schoolchildren and kindergarten children access their respective canteen areas through separate entrances, which can be divided using a movable partition wall system. When needed, for example, during events, the canteen can be used as an open and contiguous space.
In the northern area, the schoolchildren have a generous outdoor space with a strong connection to the existing plane tree grove. A spiral staircase leads to the roof of the canteen. The intensive greening of the roof area with a playable meadow landscape and a "small forest" provides not only recreational value for the children but also serves as a valuable retention area.
OUTDOOR PLAY AREAS
The development of the buildings from the north and the positioning of the three structures create a spacious outdoor area in the southeast, where most of the valuable trees can be preserved. The buildings themselves and a sound barrier planned in the south fulfill the required noise protection measures.
The outdoor space is divided into western and eastern areas but designed in a way that allows unobstructed visibility from both play areas. Without the need for fences, trees and space-defining play elements are arranged in a manner that provides a pleasant view from both sides without any visible passage openings.
The deliberate arrangement and zoning of play and design elements in relation to each other, as well as the resulting spatial effectiveness, clearly indicate which area is designated for the kindergarten and which is for the nursery children.
