Hotel Klee am Park
Wiesbaden, GER
On a small elevation, located next to the Kurhaus and the State Theatre, lies the Hotel Klee. It is thus situated in a central position, directly on the edge of the Wiesbaden Kurpark. The hotel, originally a villa dating from the nineteenth century, was rebuilt in the 1960s after its destruction during the war, and supplemented by two floors in the 1980s.
After once again reaching the limits of its capacity, a hotel extension in the form of a new building was planned in 2005 on the neighbouring property.
The independent form of this new building meant that it did not compete with the old construction. The solitary buildings are autonomous each to themselves, and are merely connected by a common lobby on the ground floor.
This lobby is accessed via a drive and forecourt, which winds inclined, ramp-like, down into the ground to an underground garage. The same principle of a ramp-type access is continued in the interior of the building: in order to avoid the classic image of a dark hotel entrance, floor for floor, door by door, the ramp acts as a central element to connect the lobby with all the rooms. This ramp winds upwards along the atrium and ends at the sundeck with its Skybar and roof garden, from where visitors can obtain an unobstructed view of the city and the green landscape of the spa park.
