House K
Königstein, GER
The single-family home K, built at the end of the 1960s, is located on the edge of a forest in Königstein im Taunus.
Because the development plan from the year 2005 only permits one full floor for new buildings, the current owners, a family of five, decided to convert the existing three-floor building.
Due to the steep slope on which it stands, the building has a single storey facing towards the road, and three storeys towards the forest and garden side.
From the level of the road, it is possible to directly access the living areas of the ground floor, featuring a jutting balcony and an outside spiral staircase, via which it is possible access a roof terrace with a marvellous view out onto the Taunus landscape.
On the first basement floor are the children’s rooms, and the second basement floor, with a bedroom, open bathroom, dressing room and fitness room is reserved for the parents. From here, it is possible to directly access the garden and adjacent forest.
The local building regulations define a slate-coloured or brick-red colour shade for the roof covering. In order to achieve a uniform appearance and a homogeneous building, the roof covering made from handmade brown-red brick runs over the entire facade.
Due to the selected material and its intrinsic colour, the house blends perfectly into the adjacent natural landscape.
